OUR STORY

The story of Bedrock begins with two Durango working-class guys who were into bikes and making things. In late 2011, Andrew had heard about this new branch of bicycle touring called ‘bikepacking’. Wanting to give it a try and having sewn things for years, he decided to make a kit for himself.

At the time, Joey was becoming known as a bikepacking outfitter at his Durango bike shop. As an ultra-racer he had made his own gear for a couple years. He had many experience-based ideas - but his sewing skills weren’t quite up to production standards.

Andrew heard about Joey’s shop and decided to drop in with his personal gear. From that first meeting, a collaboration was born: Andrew started Bedrock Bags in his spare bedroom in early 2012, and Joey sold the gear at his bike shop. They worked together almost every day on design and testing. Unique designs like the Tapeats and Entrada were created during this time.

The two became official partners in 2015, creating in the process the world’s first bikepacking outfitter-manufacturer cult shop in the mountain bike mecca of Durango, Colorado. Bedrock grew quickly with the addition of a couple new crew members, and eventually the bike shop was sold to sharpen focus on the manufacturing side of the enterprise.

In 2019, Bedrock outgrew its space and moved into a spacious and light-filled loft in the Smiley Building, a restored former junior high school in downtown Durango.

During these years industry-leading designs like the RailWing, Black Dragon, and Moab were launched.

Today our small crew - largely made up of people who have been around since the beginning! - continues to design, build, and offer some of the highest-quality, best-performing bikepacking gear available anywhere. We simply don’t see any reason to do things differently.
